No plans for holiday? Exchange your apartment!

Very common way of spending vacations is exchange houses. People from entirely different countries and culture, are meeting on line and decide to stay for few weeks in each other apartments. Most of the time, they don't know destinate city at all, they don't speak the language, but sometimes friends of host are helping with adjustment. This way of vacations is mostly famous in Esperanto circles, then speaking barrier is not an issue. Two students of this language, Paweł of Szczecin and Salman from Istanbul exchange their houses. Let's read what each one has to say about staying for two weeks in totally different country.
Salman's story

My name is Salman, I am thirty-four years old, and I live in Istanbul, Turkey. I was living at Pawel's flat for 2 weeks, and it was my first visit to Poland. First, when I arrived, I was astonished about the temperature, it was really hot night in July, and I was ready to wear sweater. I arrived at Gdansk's airport and then I take a railway to Szczecin. I was a little worried about response on my skin color, I was hearing few distressing stories about intolerance of Polish citizens, but it was alright. Two friends of Pawel pick me up from main railway station , and they promised me to take care of me during my stay. They also spoke Esperanto, and really good English, so chats were easy. Next day, at the morning, I had some polish breakfast, cooked for my by Pawel's roommate. It was tasty but very greasy - large pieceof scrambled eggs with bacon and a lot of onion, served with white bread with butter. After, I went to old district to see couple of heritages (click there). I like European architecture, it so different then Arabic one. Szczecin has a lot of building raised in 19th century, some Middle-Aged and Gothic churches and lovely parks and squares. The most I liked post office structure, it looks similar as one from Harry Potter film. Rest of my vacations I spend driving along seacoast, eating regional food, meeting new, mostly friendly citizens. I really enjoy my stay in Poland.

Pawel's story

Hi, my name is Pawel, I am from Szczecin, I am thirty years old. I was staying for two weeks in Istanbul, in apartment of my colleague, which I met at Esperanto convention. I was really thrilled about my journey, I heard that Turkey is very fascinating country. I was living in huge, cozyapartment in the middle of old district. I was watching morning bustle, while having breakfast at balcony. I was bewitched by Istanbul. It is really beautiful place, with fascinating history, and very friendly people . First week I was discovering the city, not just ancient town with heritages, and monumental Muslim buildings, but also city center with biggest skyscrapers I have ever seen.

I stayed 2 days at some of city beaches, and it was to much people, but the temperature was gorgeous. Second week I was driving with my backpack trough some small towns, learning culture, customs and language of citizens. It was really significant experience for me.

Exchanging houses during holidays is a great deal, but only for courages ones. Some tourists may be afraid of unknown person staying in their flat, but if you find your host on special website, you are saved. So choose your host smart, and have fun during your vacations.
